BAE Systems’ diesel-electric hybrid package is used in the ADL Enviro400H

BAE Systems is long-established as a supplier of key components for electric drivelines. It has 20 years’ experience with hybrid power.

However, its EBE display emphasised an extensive range that stretches from electric accessories to zero-emission propulsion.

Consequently, it is well-placed to meet demand for any of the drivetrain options that include electrification, whether it be battery, hydrogen fuel cell, extended-range hybrid, series electric hybrid or parallel hybrid.

It is meeting the growing need for vehicles capable of zero-emission operation in designated areas with its latest energy storage system, the ESS-3G-32K. This battery pack enables series hybrid vehicles such as the ADL Enviro400H to run in engine-off mode up to 35% of the time.

Around one-and-a-half miles of battery-only operation is feasible before the engine starts, enabling buses to travel in this mode through the central areas of most urban areas.

Also developed for series hybrids is the ESS-SG-1K ultracapacitor Energy Storage system, a highly-robust technology that combines a high level of performance with long life. BAE Systems says that on many duty cycles the unit will last the life of the vehicle.
