Production is underway at Sunsundegui for a further 30 accessible SC5-bodied Volvo B11R coaches for Northern Ireland operator Translink. The 12.5m coaches are a bespoke specification for Translink and are expected to begin work on its Goldline service later this year. It follows successful deployment of 30 tri-axle models last year.

The coaches are powered by the Euro VI Volvo B11R engine rated at 430bhp, coupled to Volvo’s fully integrated push button i-shift gearbox.

Each Sunsundegui SC5 B11R for Translink will come equipped with a side mounted wheelchair with space for one user, a 10-camera CCTV system, front back and side digital destination displays, powered side lockers and rear parking sensors, while passengers benefit from air conditioning, wi-fi connectivity, and 53 leather seats with three-point belts, USB chargers, individual arm rests, foot rests and tray back tables with integrated cup holders.

Project Manager Translink Will Campbell says: “Like any coach and bus operator, fuel economy is particularly important to us and the B11R delivers improved fuel savings, while at the same time delivering added passenger comfort for those longer journeys.

“The 14.3m coaches have received a very positive reaction from our passengers and drivers alike since their introduction in July 2019 and this is expected to be replicated when the new 12.5m coaches enter service later this year.”

Adds Volvo Account Manager Richard Mann: “Following a very positive reaction to the new coaches delivered last year we are delighted that this long established customer has once again turned to Volvo for ongoing fleet replacement and has placed a repeat order for 2020”
