Stagecoach has celebrated 50 years of buses on Skye by repainting a member of its fleet into the same scheme as the service had in the 1970s, when it was operated by Highland Omnibus.

The group has run services on Skye for 13 years after it took over from previous operator Rapsons in 2008. It employs 23 people at its Portree depot, from where 15 coaches and buses cover 500,000 miles per annum. The anniversary vehicle – a Volvo B7RLE with Wrightbus bodywork – will be used across Skye.

Says Stagecoach Highland Managing Director David Beaton: “We are really proud to be keeping the communities around Skye connected in what has been one of the most challenging years in the transport industry.

“Our anniversary bus looks fantastic and we will look forward to seeing what the next 50 years brings for services on the island.”
