Zenobe Energy will work with McGill’s Buses to project manage the installation of electrification infrastructure at three of the operator’s depots and to provide the power required by the 68 battery-electric buses that McGill’s has on order.

The supplier will also implement what it describes as “an end-to-end software solution to manage both the vehicles and the fleet charging” as part of the agreement. Zenobe will upgrade depots at Dundee, Inchinnan and Johnstone, and it says that provision of capacity for further electrification of McGill’s fleet will form part of its work.

McGill’s has 55 Yutong E12s and one BYD ADL Enviro200 on order for its depots in Renfrewshire and 12 BYD ADL Enviro400s due for its Xplore Dundee arm. The purchases are being part-funded by the Scottish Ultra-Low Emission Bus Scheme. All 68 battery-electric buses are due for delivery before the end of 2021.

Zenobe says that it already provides power for 20% of the battery-electric buses in the UK. Adds Founder Director Steve Meersman: “We are thrilled to be working with McGill’s Buses, a home-grown company just like Zenobe, embracing the electric bus transition with an ambitious strategy to develop three key depots.

“This exciting project will help to boost accessibility to sustainable travel in Scotland and support the UK’s drive towards net zero. The three depots are a glowing example of what is possible when private organisations and the government work together towards a common goal, and what British companies can achieve together.”
