City Sightseeing Bournemouth launches bikeshare combo ticket

City Sightseeing Bournemouth – operated by Discover Dorset – and bikeshare provider Beryl have announced a discounted combination ticket that will give customers unlimited use of the open-top bus service and Beryl bikes for a 24hr period.

The initiative began on 17 May. It is a pre-emptive strike against expected high levels of congestion as the peak summer season gets underway. The two businesses say that it has the potential to keep “hundreds” of private cars off the roads locally while making it easier and more enjoyable for people to travel sustainably.

A staycation boom is likely to see a surge in traffic, says City Sightseeing Bournemouth Managing Director Tim Sanders. He adds that as restrictions were eased in the summer of 2020 there was “a real problem with congestion,” and that the issue is expected to be equally severe this year.

Each stop served by City Sightseeing Bournemouth on the service’s route between the town and Poole Quay via Sandbanks has Beryl bays close by. Passengers can find their exact location via the Beryl app.

Adds Mr Sanders: “Many residents of and visitors to Bournemouth experienced the frustrations of an unprecedented volume of traffic across the conurbation last summer. Our work with Beryl will ensure that we can welcome visitors to come and enjoy their time here, see all the sights and enjoy the lovely environment, without adding to congestion or air pollution.”

Adds Beryl Partnerships and Campaigns Lead Ben Lee: “We understand that not all journeys are possible by bike. That is why we are excited to partner with City Sightseeing Bournemouth to launch this initiative that will give visitors and residents the best possible opportunities to take more sustainable trips.”
