Newbury & District launch Basingstoke to Heathrow service

A new service to Heathrow Airport terminal 5 from Basingstoke and Camberley with introductory one-way fares of £1 was announced today by Newbury & District.

The limited-stop route named Flightline 730/731, which will begin on 21 August, will leave from Basingstoke Station and also serve local connections over approximately 37 miles at Old Basing, Frimley, Camberley and Bagshot. Both services will run hourly from early morning to late and the £1 single tickets will be available for the first two weeks.

Newbury & District is promoting it as a more cost-effective way of getting to the airport after London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone is extended to include Heathrow from 29 August.

Robert Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Newbury & District, says the operator has identified a route along the M30 and A30 corridor which was easy to do by car not by public transport.

“Newbury & District see this as a hybrid of a bus, coach and train service and a very high profile and exciting project for our company as well as the local area,” he says.

“We have four brand new coaches on order which will enter service in October and in the meantime we will be using modern double deck buses with high back seats, USB charging and free WiFi.”

Matthew Wooll, Route Development Lead for Surface Access Strategy at Heathrow, adds: “This new Flightline service is a fantastic addition to Heathrow’s public transport network.

“We want all of Heathrow’s passengers and colleagues to have access to good public transport at the times they need it. Travelling more sustainably will help reduce congestion and emissions, and Flightline 730/731 will also help keep the cost of travelling down, through some great-value tickets including discounts if you work at the airport.”
