A pair of bus drivers are embarking on some gruelling runs to raise money for charity, with support from Oxford Bus Company (OBC).

Arif Khan will run his second 26.2 mile London Marathon this month on behalf of Cancer Research UK. In July, his colleague Mark Temple will raise money for palliative care hospice Sobell House by competing in a half-iron-man contest that consists of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride, and half marathon across Somerset.

OBC is backing the duo with sponsorship that funds equipment like running watches, heart rate monitors and trainers.

Comments Luke Marion, OBC Managing Director: “We’re so proud of Arif and Mark and the way their colleagues are supporting them both. Their determination is inspiring and so we’re delighted to help them both with kit for their big days. They’re running for two excellent charities and we wish them all the best.”

Says Arif: “[Cancer Research UK] is a wonderful charity that helps makes make a difference and I’m happy to help again. Training is going well and I’m focused on beating my time from last year. I’m so grateful to OBC for supporting me and the charity.”

Mark, whose father and wife’s grandmother spent time in the care of Sobell House before they passed, adds: “Sobell House showed so much compassion and respect and so I always run in support of the hospice. I’m looking forward to the day and running for such a good cause. I’m hoping to complete the challenge inside six hours, I’m upping my training in preparation. OBC has been brilliant in supporting me and Sobell House.”

Donations can be made at Arif’s GoFundMe page and Mark’s JustGiving page.
