Women in Bus and Coach was awarded the Viva Shield 2024, the premier honour of the Worshipful Company of Carmen, at the Mansion House Awards Banquet.
The shield recognises “invention, principle, development, production, implemented system or other idea which contributes most notably to the advancement of transport in Europe, with particular reference to road transport, up to and including the current year”.
Women in Bus and Coach was honoured for its work in creating a more inclusive, representative, and future-ready coach, bus and community transport sector.
The organisation notes initiatives such as the Inclusive Bus Cab Roadshow, the Period Positive Workplace campaign, and its mentoring and ambassador programmes as being significant developments for the industry since its launch in 2023.
Louise Cheeseman, Chair of Women in Bus and Coach, says: “Receiving the Viva Shield is an incredible moment for Women in Bus and Coach.
“To be recognised by the Worshipful Company of Carmen – and in the historic surroundings of Mansion House – is not only a huge honour, but a powerful statement about the value of inclusion and innovation in shaping the future of transport.
“This award belongs to every member of our network and every ally across the industry working to make real change happen.”
The Worshipful Company of Carmen is one of the 110 livery companies of the City of London, representing a range of aspects within the transport and logistics sector, and has its origins in the 16th century. Today, it champions the sector through ceremony, fellowship and charity.
