Alexander Dennis has delivered a further nine next-generation Enviro500EV battery-electric tri-axle double-deckers to Hong Kong customer MTR Corporation.
They are part of a larger order for 35 of the type. A pre-production vehicle entered service as MTR Corporation’s first battery-electric bus in June 2024 and the remaining examples will follow during 2025 and 2026, the manufacturer says.
MTR Corporation is a further customer for the Enviro500EV in Hong Kong, with operator KMB having also taken delivery of the model. MTR provides feeder bus services to the Mass Transit Railway system for residents in the north-west New Territories.
Enviro500EV buses for Hong Kong customers are fully built in China by Alexander Dennis partner Zhuhai Guangtong Vehicle Manufacture Company.
The 12m MTR vehicles seat 86 and have room for a wheelchair user. Three-point belts are at each position. Battery capacity is 472kWh, which Alexander Dennis adds will deliver “a meaningful operational range between charges.”
The heavy-duty variant of the Voith Electrical Drive System is used. That has a peak output of 410kW and a continuous delivery of 310kW, which the bus builder observes is ample to deal with heavy passenger loadings and the Hong Kong topography.
Speaking about the further deliveries, Alexander Dennis Managing Director for Asia Pacific Andy Boulton says: “Our next-generation Enviro500EV has been designed from the ground up for the demands of Hong Kong’s world-class transport system to deliver sizeable passenger capacity alongside operational flexibility.
“We are honoured to be MTR Corporation’s partner for its bus fleet electrification and are delighted to continue the delivery of this major contract.”
