In a bid to woo rail passengers feeling the pinch Stagecoach Yorkshire is offering rail users with valid or recently expired train tickets, free travel in January on its new hourly Barnsley-Leeds X10 route.

Operated with Plaxton coaches it runs into the late evening on Fridays and Saturdays.

People with a currently weekly, or longer, rail season ticket, or one that expired in December for Barnsley-Leeds travel can travel for free.

Commercial Director John Young says: “After Christmas we know funds are often running low and rail fares increase. This is a festive gift to rail passengers who can save money with our free travel offer.

“We launched the X10 at the end of October and it has proved to be very popular for commuters, people heading into Leeds for a day out shopping plus those looking to enjoy the city’s nightlife.”

The X10 offers coach seats, USB ports and free  wi-fi.
