Deveron Coaches of Macduff has become the first Scottish operator to take delivery of Scania Irizar i6 models that have been retrofitted at the Irizar factory to achieve PSVAR compliance.
It has received two used examples, supplied by Scania Great Britain. Both are 2016 models with 53 seats and built on the K 410 EB chassis. Deveron Coaches Managing Director Albert Milne says the two newcomers will allow the Aberdeenshire operator to expand into more areas of work.
He adds: “These vehicles are a welcome addition to our fleet as they will allow us to tender for rail replacement contracts, where PSVAR specification vehicles are obligatory. We are now also seeing other customers, such as the cruise lines we service, stipulating PSVAR. I firmly believe that PSVAR is the future, hence our decision to invest in these two coaches.”
Mr Milne says that Deveron chose used vehicles as they were available quickly. The two PSVAR retrofitted Scania Irizar i6 models join 11 other Scanias in the operator’s fleet. He has thanked Steve Lambert, General Manager Used Bus and Coach at Scania, for his help with the deal and notes the operator’s strong established relationship with its local Scania dealership.
Irizar’s work converting existing i6 and i6S coaches to achieve PSVAR compliance includes the addition of a Masats life and a wheelchair tracking and restraint system. Hanover destination display units also form part of the package.
