Stagecoach South has begun to introduce 22 new Alexander Dennis Enviro400 double-deckers to its Coastliner 700 route. They will run on the section between Portsmouth and Littlehampton, and form part of an order for 200 such buses placed by the group in 2022.
The factory-fresh Enviro400s introduce a new brand for the service that the operator says will subsequently be extended to existing buses of the same type that serve the eastern end of the Coastliner 700 service between Wick, Littlehampton and Brighton.
“That will be completed on paint anniversary dates in order to have a cohesive and common livery throughout the Coastliner 700 route,” adds Stagecoach South Marketing Officer Steve Thorpe.
Purchase of the buses represents an investment of £5.3 million by the operator. They come with USB charging points along with audio/visual next stop announcements. Deployment of the fleet follows a recent timetable enhancement for the Coastliner service.
Speaking about the delivery, Stagecoach South Interim Managing Director Gordon Frost says: “We are delighted to be launching these 22 new low-emission vehicles, which represent a significant investment in our services for the local community.
“It is great to see more people choosing sustainable travel to help our local environment. We hope the new buses and improved timetable make the decision even easier.”
