Thandi Red of Birmingham has welcomed the first of two B8Rs with MCV Evotor bodywork into its fleet, supplied by Volvo Bus UK and Ireland. The second is due this year.
They join a fleet of 30 vehicles that operate from Smethwick. Each will carry 53 passengers with a centre sunken toilet, which can be dismantled to add space for two more seats. USB charging and a Bosch entertainment system are fitted.
Speaking about the purchases, Thandi Red owner Avi Thandi says: “The new Evotor is a great addition to Volvo’s offerings, and it was the clear choice when we came to expanding our fleet.
“With a diverse selection of regular routes across the UK, the comfort and safety of our passengers is a top priority – and a key reason behind our purchasing decisions.
“Drivers and passengers say that the new vehicle is spacious, smooth and comfortable, so we are very happy, and I look forward to receiving another Evotor.” Backup from Volvo was a further consideration in the approach.
Power in the new coach is from a D8K engine developing 350bhp and 1,585Nm of torque driving through an I-Shift 12-speed automated manual gearbox.
