Indefinite ban for Tamworth firm

The O-Licence held by North Warwickshire Travel Ltd, trading as People Movers, will be revoked on 7 December.

It follows the firm’s decision to stop running three Tamworth services earlier than the 56-days notice required. They had only been running for 17 days.

Traffic Commissioner Nick Denton also ruled that director Michael James “deliberately ignored” its legal obligation to carry on running the services until the formal termination date and his “disregarded the need to operate within the law and to respect the regulatory process.”

Mr James is banned from being a transport manager for three years, and banned indefinitely from holding an O-Licence.

The TC said one of the basic functions of a bus operator is to make sure it has the necessary staff to run local registered bus services.

“I do not regard the excuse of unforeseen lack of staff as sufficient: if it lacked staff it should not have registered the services in the first place,” he added.

“It could have brought in agency staff to man the services, or sub-contracted them to another operator. It did neither.”
