An acknowledgment that the total operating economy of a Scania product is a well-chosen investment for a profitable future, is the key driver to record sales, says Tony Tomsett, Scania GB Bus, Coach and Engine Sales Director.
Revealing that Scania delivered almost 130 coaches to retail customers in 2016 and had a record order intake, he adds: “We have our best-ever forward order book to go into 2017.”
The run-out of the OmniExpress, and the bold decision to build 25 special equipment Finesse models proved wise, as all were sold before they were built.
Meanwhile an “excellent relationship with Irizar” saw a further 20 i6 coaches delivered to City Circle UK, and 16 more ordered for 2017.
Launch of the Interlink HD saw an “unprecedented reaction” and the expectation of achieving 50 deliveries in year one, “and the orders keep on coming,” adds Mt Tomsett.
This year sees the return of the iSkool with the delivery later this year of an 80-seater to Leicester-based Ausden Clark and “further orders for unamed customers” later this year. Touring sales were also “successful” thanks in part to the introduction of a two-axle 49-seater exec.
Finally, bus sales are going well, with more biogas orders – including for double-deckers – to be announced “soon”.
