Abellio London has become the first UK operator to place an order for Caetano electric buses, in the form of 34 e.City Gold models for Transport for London (TfL) services C10 and P5.

The e.City Golds are to enter service in 2020. They are 10.7m examples that will provide a capacity for 60 passengers, with a low floor throughout.

Additionally, they incorporate elements of TfL’s Bus Safety Standard ahead of its mandatory introduction, including rear-view cameras, intelligent speed assist, acoustic vehicle alert system and a frontal design that improves the safety of pedestrians and other vulnerable road users.

Says Abellio London Managing Director Tony Wilson: “We are delighted to be working with Caetano on this exciting project to bring its e.City Gold to the London market.

“The Caetano e.City Gold will deliver a step change in safety and driver and passenger comfort, while allowing Abellio to introduce zero-emission vehicles as we work with TfL to improve air quality.”

Adds CaetanoBus CEO Jorge Pinto: “This delivery of our e.City Gold to London is a big step towards our commitment to providing a safer and cleaner transport solution to our customers. We are proud to have been selected by Abellio and to extend our zero-emission product portfolio to the UK market.”
