MPs from across the political divide have come together at Westminster as part of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for coaches and buses to support Bus Users UK Catch the Bus Month.
The parliamentarians boarded a specially-liveried double-decker outside the Houses of Parliament as part of the informal body’s stated goal of identifying ways for the government to increase bus patronage.
Labour, the Conservatives, the Greens and other parties were represented as the group donned Catch the Bus Month giant red foam hands in front of a bus supplied by Dawsongroup Bus and Coach.
Alex Mayer MP, who is the Secretary for the coaches and buses APPG in Westminster, says: “Buses are so important. They offer communities much needed lifelines – getting people from A to B, and driving economic growth. And when more people use them, it helps cut congestion and pollution, which is vital during this climate emergency.
“But to have a sustainable bus network, we need more people to choose to use our buses.
“So, the APPG is urging everyone to give the bus a go this Catch the Bus Month. Try it and you might like our buses and never look back.”
Bus Users UK Chief Executive Claire Walters adds: “We are delighted to have the support of Alex Mayer MP, the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Buses and Coaches and Dawsongroup for this year’s Catch the Bus Month – their work to help spread the word has been amazing!
“They are passionate about accessible transport and the impact it has on all our lives, which is precisely what Catch the Bus Month is all about.”
