Arriva’s Guildford service has taken its 100,000th contactless payment, less than six months after launch.
The company’s Guildford depot was the first to introduce contactless payment in the southern counties, using Ticketer Electronic Ticket Machines (ETMs).
Cornelie Alecsandrescu was the lucky driver who hit the exciting milestone payment on Saturday 28 April at 1658hrs, beating his colleagues in the race against time to be the employee who sold the 100,000th ticket.
He was presented with an Arriva certificate to mark the occasion, celebrating with colleagues for what has proven to be a significant achievement for the company in Guildford and the surrounding areas.
Oliver Monahan, Area Aanaging Director for Arriva Kent and Surrey, says: “Our contactless payment trial at Guildford depot has been a great success and a step forward in opening up bus travel for those who do not often carry change.
“With the UK fast becoming a cashless society, Arriva looks forward to developing its contactless payment network further to ensure that bus travel continues to meet the needs of the communities we operate in during the coming years.”
