Band and live events transport provider Jumbocruiser has been sold to business growth and acquisition specialist Hobboard following retirement of the operator’s founder Stephen Lee.

Hobboard founder and entrepreneur Robert Ezigbo will take responsibility for day-to-day running of Jumbocruiser. It is based in Newport and operates across the UK and Europe, and has built a strong reputation within the ‘band bus’ sector since the South Wales business was formed in 1996. It is best known for its fleet of orange customised Ayats coaches.

The new owner’s focus is to continue to deliver a high-quality service while positioning for the future. Plans include enhancements to branding, communications, operational systems and customer experience alongside investment in fleet, drivers, and the wider Jumbocruiser team.

GS Verde supported the transaction by advising Jumbocruiser throughout the sale, while Hobboard was assisted by Millbrook Accountancy, Finance Simplified, Business Pathfinders, and Hutton Law.

Speaking about the decision to sell, Mr Lee says: “I am extremely proud of the business we have built at Jumbocruiser. It was important that we planned a succession path that ensured the business’s future after my retirement and provided continuity for the team and our clients.

“I would like to thank all of my staff who have helped the business to become what it is today, and our valued clients, who I have enjoyed supporting throughout the years.

“Thanks also to the team at GS Verde, who helped from start to finish. I wish Robert every success for the future, and I am sure that the business will continue to prosper for many years to come.”

Adds Mr Ezigbo: “My focus going forward is simple: building a modern, professional, inclusive and genuinely welcoming company that people enjoy working with, both on and off the road, and that celebrates the diverse communities we travel to and from.”
