Go Ahead-owned Bluestar has introducing 10 brand new ADL Enviro400 MMC ‘deckers to its Bluestar 1 Southampton-Winchester route.
The announcement closely follows the introduction of further Bluestar buses in and around Southampton – and underlines the firm’s commitment to running the latest in new bus technology across the region.
Hampshire County Council’s executive member for environment and transport, Cllr Rob Humby, joined Bluestar MD Andrew Wickham to formally launch the new buses in Winchester.
“Bus travel in Hampshire is popular – and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to invest almost £7m in our fleet here during the past year,” said Andrew Wickham.
“We would not have been able to embark on this commercial venture if it weren’t for the high demand we’ve been experiencing here – so its a tremendous sign that people in the region value our services.
“I was delighted to meet Cllr Rob Humby in Winchester this week to launch the new buses – which are equipped with low emissions Euro 6 engines and the very latest technology. The event also gave me an opportunity to talk to local people about the services we provide, and how we can improve our offering still further.”
Cllr Rob Humby added: “Bluestar’s commitment to providing new buses for their passengers is very welcome news. With bus journeys in Hampshire close to record levels, investment in buses is key to encouraging even more people to travel on public transport. This can make a big difference to congestion on the roads, particularly at peak times.”
