Three British-registered coaches were attacked by graffiti vandals while parked overnight at the Flower Market in Brussels. The UK coaches were deliberately targeted, not only by the slogans painted, but also as two Polish-registered coaches parked adjacent were left undamaged.
It is the latest in a series of previously low-level incidents to afflict operators passing through the Belgian capital.
One of the coaches damaged, run by Tiverton, Devon, based Blakes Coaches, saw its newest coach, a 16-reg MAN Beulas Mythos, sprayed with ‘Brexit’ in orange on its rear and sides.
Fortunately, quick-thinking work by its driver, saw it removed, thanks to a covering of road dirt preventing full adhesion, plus elbow greases, cutting compound with a credit card used as an impromptu scraper.
Other incidents in Brussels have included verbal abuse and gestures; a coach damaged while sat in traffic and two British coaches broken into, while four others from non-UK countries were untouched.
Says Hannah Blake of the firm: “Some people have no shame. It’s absolutely disgraceful behaviour. I want to warn all coach companies travelling to and through Belgium.”
