Initial casting for the London Palladium’s production of Dick Whittington, which runs from 9 December to 14 January 2018, has been announced.
Following the success of Cinderella at the same venue last year, Julian Clary will return to play Spirit of the Bells, alongside comedy ventriloquist Paul Zerdin as Idle Jack and Nigel Havers as Captain Nigel. Further casting and creative team is yet to be announced.
Christmas 2016 saw Cinderella become the venue's first pantomime after 29 years, where it had previously been a mainstay of the annual theatrical calendar. Julian Clary, Paul Zerdin, and Nigel Havers all appeared in the critically acclaimed production, alongside the likes of Paul O'Grady, Amanda Holden and Count Arthur Strong.
Dick Whittington is a rags-to-riches tale based on an old English folklore about a young man and his cat. The pair come from an impoverished home and set off to London in hopes of a brighter future. The rat-infested capital proves to be the perfect hunting grounds for Dick's cat, whose ratting abilities make his master a sound fortune and leads to his eventual promotion to Lord Mayor of London.
