Almost three-quarters of motorway tyre failures could be prevented if drivers carried out simple checks, according to research by Highways England and Bridgestone.
An 18-month study saw Highways England staff provide 1,035 tyre segments from West Midlands motorways to Bridgestone’s technical team.
It found that 56% of tyres failed due to road/yard debris penetration.
