Reading Buses, Midland Classic and Hattons Travel are among the first operators to sign up to the recently announced mobile ticketing feature in UrbanThings’ UK Bus Checker X app, due to be released this month.

Now in its 10th version, Bus Checker X brings multi-modal real-time travel information and journey planning tools to 3m users. As well as the addition of the mobile ticketing feature, the latest update will add an enhanced user interface.

The update is still in beta phase and being tested by nearly 1,000 “super fans” across the UK.

“It’s encouraging to see so many operators keen to get involved,” says UrbanThings CEO Carl Partridge. “UrbanThings’ mission is to make travel simple. Bus Checker X already has an extensive user base, so we’re thrilled to be able to offer this extensive, simple and low-risk retail channel to operators, to sell their tickets in the app that their passengers are already using.”

UrbanThings adds that Bus Checker X will complete its integration of UK Bus Open Data System data to “make it even faster and simpler for operators to be included in the app”.

The app has received critical acclaim from reviewers including the BBC, Guardian and The Sunday Times.
