East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) has appointed four new apprentices to its engineering team, having received almost 200 applications for the roles.

Alex Litten from S&B Automotive Industry with Ross Maiden, Jordanne-Rose Rodgers, Alex Grainger and Jack Jackson

Alex Grainger, Jack Jackson, Ross Maiden and Jordanne-Rose Rodgers have each gained a Bus and Coach Engineering Technician Apprenticeship and will be learning the skills required to work as part of EYMS’s 200-strong engineering department.

They have already started their apprenticeships and will be spending the next four years undertaking the essential training to allow to work on the operator’s fleet of around 300 coaches and buses. This will include practical training across the EYMS depots and classroom-based academic lessons at the S&B Automotive Academy in Bristol.

Jack, 19, from Hull, says about his apprenticeship: “EYMS is a well-known local company with a good reputation, and it was a great opportunity to join such a prestigious company.”

Robert Gibson, Chief Engineer at EYMS, comments: “Apprentices bring so much value to EYMS. It’s essential for us to invest in the engineers of the future, to make sure that we can maintain the skills needs to keep our buses on the road.”
