Last year parking at the coach park in Torquay, which is owned by Torbay Council, cost £38 and this year it has gone up to £65.
If you pay for it online, that’s not a problem – it clearly says £65. But if you go into the information centre to buy your ticket, they scratch off the date you’re parking on the ticket and what I have noticed the council has done, instead of amending it properly by reprinting new tickets, they’ve got some white tape and stuck £65 on top of the original £38.
I have checked the law and it states that the ticket must be an original typed ticket with no alterations or mistyping. If altered in any way, the ticket is classed as null and void and non-enforceable.
I have challenged this with them and I have even approached the parking attendant who told me they’ve done it to try and save money rather than re-printing them, which to me is illegal.
Instead of reprinting them all, they’ve used old tickets, stuck a new price tag on them and, to me, that makes the ticket non-enforceable.
