Kainos Software has won a three-year contract to deliver the Bus Open Data Service (BODS), the Department for Transport (DfT) has announced.

Taking over from KPMG on 1 September, the Belfast-based digital services supplier will support the publication, management, and dissemination of open data around bus services.

The contract, which is worth up to £25 million according to the bidding documents, includes delivery of Analyse Bus Open Data, which provides free-to-access reporting and analytics to operators and authorities.

Kainos, which was set up in 1986 and is listed on the FTSE-250 Index, reported annual revenue of £382.4 million via its most recent financial statement.

According to the contract notice, the delivery of BODS helps deliver on DfT’s aims, including growing the economy by investing in enhancing the transport network and improving transport for users.

The contract award allows for two option extensions of 12 months each.

BODS, which was launched in 2020, provides live timetable, location and fares information for bus services in accessible format.

KPMG was the original provider of BODS, in conjunction with Ito World.
