The London Transport Museum has added to its exhibits a front section of a Wrightbus StreetDeck Electroliner double-decker, including an interactive driver’s cab and passenger area.
It is the first time that the Covent Garden attraction has presented a battery-electric London bus on permanent display. Visitors will be able to sit in the cab and examine safety features that include a camera monitoring system from Journeo in place of rear-view mirrors.
Transport UK London Bus is supporting the new exhibit, which carries its logo and fleet number LTM1. It already runs over 100 Wrightbus battery-electric vehicles.
Wrightbus provided the chassis and bodywork for the base vehicle, including supporting the build process via the supply of further parts. RGI Bus and Coach Refurbishment carried out engineering work and fit-out, alongside specialist support. RGI was recently purchased by Wrightbus.
The exhibit has the latest onboard digital screens and next stop announcements from Navaho, and Hanover Displays’ all-digital destination displays. Guests will also be able to turn on the Zenobē charger, which that partner has donated. AG Marketing provided internal displays, and Lazzerini has supplied the seating.
London Transport Museum Director and CEO Elizabeth McKay has thanked those involved in creating the StreetDeck Electroliner exhibit. She says that the attraction “is dedicated to telling the evolving story of transport in the capital.”
Transport UK London Bus Commercial Director Alastair Wills adds: “We are absolutely thrilled that our specially engineered bus can share the story of EV innovation with millions of visitors at the London Transport Museum over the coming years.
“Supporting this exhibit, which will inspire future generations as they experience being in a cab of an electric London bus, is a huge honour. I would also like to thank all the suppliers that kindly supported this exciting project and enabled us to make it happen.”
