Lorry driver Ryszard Masierak was asleep in his cab for 12 minutes in lane one of the M1 prior to the accident on 26 August that killed the driver and seven passengers of a minibus operated by Nottingham-based ABC Travels.
Mr Masierak’s LGV licence had been revoked before the crash, which involved an ABC Travels Ford Transit being driven by owner Cyriac Joseph.
Four other passengers were seriously injured in the accident, which involved a second articulated lorry. Both LGV drivers were charged with causing eight counts of causing death by dangerous driving and four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Mr Masierak was also charged with eight counts of causing death by careless driving when over the prescribed limit.
