Lothian has used the start of Scottish Apprenticeships Week to launch its search for its 2026 intake of trainee technicians.
The operator’s apprentice technician programme leads to either an SCQF Level 7 in HGV and PSV Maintenance and Repair, or an SCQF Level 6 in Vehicle Body Repair and Alignment on successful completion.
Delivered in partnership with GTG, it is available to those aged 16 and over.
The programme has brought more than 150 technicians into the industry over the past decade, says Lothian.
Dylan Dastey, Engineering Director for Lothian, says: “Our apprentice programme isn’t just training engineers, it’s shaping careers and future-proofing our business. Since the scheme was established, more than 150 apprentices have honed their skills here, many going on to thrive as fully qualified technicians, supervisors and managers.
“We’re excited to welcome the next generation of talent to Lothian to help them build lasting, successful careers in our industry.”
Chloe Riddell, who completed her Lothian apprenticeship last year and is now working as a qualified mechanic at Lothian’s Marine depot, adds: “I tried college [before applying for the apprenticeship] but I wasn’t getting the hands-on experience I needed to be able to learn fully. This apprenticeship gave me what I needed.
“I’m so much more confident in myself now, and I always felt very supported throughout my apprenticeship. We were told there was no such thing as a stupid question, and there was always someone there to help.”
The deadline to apply is 27 March.
Scottish Apprenticeships Week takes place from 2-6 March and is administered by Skills Development Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.
