Mayflower set sail for America from Plymouth in 1620

Plans are underway for Mayflower 400, the programme to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrim Fathers’ journey to the New World in 2020.

The programme hopes to deliver a world-class series of events, public art, community engagement and visitor trails.

Hills Balfour has been appointed to manage the PR and marketing, and will work closely with partners, including VisitBritain and UKInbound, to launch the Mayflower 400 campaign in the US, Holland and the UK.

It wants to work particularly closely with the travel trade, to educate the industry and capitalise on tourism opportunities.

There are 11 UK member destinations within the Mayflower 400 programme:

  • Austerfield, Doncaster
  • Boston, Lincolnshire
  • Gainsborough, Lincolnshire
  • Immingham, Lincolnshire
  • Scrooby & Babworth, Nottinghamshire
  • Worcestershire
  • Harwich, Essex
  • Southwark, London
  • Southampton, Hampshire
  • Dartmouth, Devon
  • Plymouth, Devon.
