Scottish independent bus operator McGill's has unveiled the first seven of its 42 buses that have been retrofitted to Euro 6 standard, following funding from the Bus Emissions Abatement Retrofit (BEAR) phase one scheme.
Ralph Roberts, McGill’s Managing Director, says: “McGill’s fleet replacement policy is ahead of schedule. Nevertheless, the Glasgow Low Emission Zone (LEZ) will mean that by January 2023, 30% of our fleet will still be well within its serviceable life but not compliant with the LEZ.
“This initial scheme has allowed seven buses to be improved from Euro 5 to Euro 6 via the fitment of exhaust after-treatment.”
Amir Rauf, Vehicle Retrofits Programme Manager at Energy Saving Trust, adds: “With £7.89m funding available for Scottish coach and bus retrofitting in BEAR phase two, I strongly encourage operators to apply before the deadline of 8 March.”
