Morse Coaches of Sheriff Hutton in North Yorkshire has been purchased by the Go-Ahead Group in a further expansion of the buyer’s presence in the coach market.

The deal includes 38 vehicles. Morse Coaches now falls under the group’s subsidiary East Yorkshire Buses and the leadership of Managing Director Ben Gilligan.

Acquisition of the firm takes to five the number of coach businesses that have joined East Yorkshire within the past two years. It follows the purchases in 2024 of Compass Royston, Esk Valley, Fourway Coaches and Procters Coaches. The business also has its own coach operation in Hull.

Consolidation of Go-Ahead’s coach presence in Yorkshire also follows deals elsewhere that have seen operators including Pearces Coaches, Pulhams Coaches, Regency Coaches and Swanbrook join the group. Like those in northern England, all have been brough under the control of the local Go-Ahead bus subsidiary.

The group notes how Morse Coaches has strong ties to its local community and longstanding work in partnership with North Yorkshire Council.

Morse Coaches Managing Director Andrew Morse adds that the business “is proud to join East Yorkshire Buses and the wider Go-Ahead Group,” and that the transfer of ownership “marks an exciting new chapter for Morse Coaches and for our customers.”

Comments Go-Ahead Group CEO, Bus, Matt Carney: “Morse Coaches’ strong local presence and commitment to customer service make it a valuable addition to our growing coaching operations. Over the past few years, we have steadily expanded our coach offer so we can serve even more customers in our communities.”

Notes Mr Gilligan: “We are delighted to welcome everyone at Morse Coaches to the East Yorkshire Buses family. Their dedication to delivering safe, reliable and punctual services aligns perfectly with our values, and we look forward to working together to serve customers across the region.”
