Driving performance solution provider SmartDrive Systems says that drivers often do not feel valued if telematics systems do not put events into context.
“A system that simply shows a harsh braking trigger gives no context; it could be the product of heroic reflexes or abysmal distraction. Without context it’s meaningless,” says Vice-President EMEA Aidan Rowsome.
SmartDrive’s intelligence-led monitoring system allows operators to explain to drivers what they are trying to achieve. That starts by helping them to be safer and develop their professional skills.
“What we provide is more context, combining triggers with analysed, risk-scored observations and transportation intelligence, derived from the capture and analysis of over 220m driving events to date,” he adds.
SmartDrive’s programme centres on triggered video events caused by specific vehicle actions. The video clip is 20 seconds long and uploaded to SmartDrive’s review centre. There, it is viewed by a safety team and analysed against dozens of pre-determined observations of driver behaviour.
It is the assigned a risk score that is fed back to the operator via a secure online portal for use in driver coaching and KPI reporting.
