Stagecoach Manchester has honoured 63 employees with a combined employment duration of 1,749 years at its long-service awards.
Drivers, engineers, cleaners and office staff with service ranging from 20 to 45 years were recognised.
Among them was Michael Madden, who started as conductor at Birchfield’s Road Depot in 1983 and has driven for the operator since 1985. He thus follows in the footsteps of his father, who was a driver at the same depot for more than 30 years.
Looking back on his employment, Mr Madden says: “Buses are easier, safer and more comfortable to drive and a lot more training is involved now. Whilst it’s the same job, a lot has changed for the better.
“What I enjoy most is the people who I work with, it’s a real friendly team at Stagecoach Manchester and it’s also nice to be able to celebrate our service at events like this; it’s nice to be appreciated by your employer.”
Rob Jones, Managing Director of Stagecoach Manchester, adds: “Congratulations to everyone who received their long service awards this year. It’s amazing to see just how much experience we have at Stagecoach Manchester. I’d like to extend my personal thanks to all 63 amazing members of staff for all their hard work and dedication to both the company and to our customers over the last four decades.”
