Stagecoach South has awarded a commemorative plaque to a driver to mark 50 years of service.
Paul Keane, who began his career on 10 February 1975 with Alder Valley at Hindhead, was honoured with the award by his Operations Manager, Graham Harmer.
Having begun driving Leyland Nationals and Bristol Lowliners, he eventually transferred to Stagecoach when the operator was bought up Alder Valley in 1992.
Mr Keane drove the last bus out of the Hindhead depot on its closure in 1994.
He then had roles in Aldershot and Haslemere before finally moving to Guildford depot at Peasmarsh in 2015.
“When I started 50 years ago, I never imagined I’d be driving electric buses—it just shows how much technology has progressed,” he says.
Aside from regular duties, his work has included driving at the The Open Golf Championships in 2003, the 2012 Olympics, and PGA Wentworth Golf.
Mr Harmer adds: “Reaching 50 years of service is an outstanding achievement. Paul’s commitment, professionalism, and passion for the job are truly inspiring, and we are incredibly grateful for his contributions. He is a fantastic role model for us all.”
