All 7,400 vehicles operating within Stagecoach’s UK regional bus business can now accept contactless payments.

Michael Matheson (right), Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, launches the introduction of contactless payments across Stagecoach East Scotland’s buses

The tap and go payment technology’s roll-out was completed at more than 100 depots across Stagecoach’s network in England, Scotland and Wales during a 100-week period, following an initial pilot. It also includes coach operator Scottish Citylink.

The final stage of the £12m programme’s implementation came as contactless payment was launched across Stagecoach East Scotland by the Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, Michael Matheson.

“Additional smart contactless payment means that more people can choose bus as their sustainable form of transport, knowing that this modern and easy option for buying tickets is now available,” he says.
