Public transport technology company Snapper Services has signalled an intent to expand its existing presence in the UK. It says the move will “help operators and local authorities to better manage their networks.”
The New Zealand-headquartered business currently supports the West Yorkshire Combined Authority with data-enabled insights into bus services. It has also worked with the National Transport Authority in Ireland since 2015 to provide a mobile reload option for the Leap card. Other customers in both the UK and Ireland are scheduled to follow those, it adds.
Snapper Services says that it plans to help to create better public transport experiences through the use of intelligent, data-driven tools and user-friendly interfaces “that paint a full picture of transport operations for authorities and operators.” That work will help to streamline performance and provide a better service to passengers, it continues.
Snapper Services UK Executive Director Jon Salmon claims that in the UK, many local authorities are “left in the dark as to what is happening on their networks, and therefore how to solve problems.” He says that is a result of “large-scale inefficiencies in the process of collecting, processing and gaining actionable insights from transit data.”
Adds Mr Salmon: “It is only through trusted data and real-time insights that transport authorities can, using reliable information on exact routes and potential timing issues, improve network consistency and efficiency, save on resources and ultimately, create better transport experiences that drive the journey to a sustainable world.
“This is exactly what Snapper Services has succeeded in helping New Zealand’s transport industry to do, and as we expand our company and partnerships across the UK, we look forward to working with the many transport authorities and operators that we know want to create better networks.”
