Trentbarton’s team has chosen Alzheimer’s Society as its charity of the year for 2018 and 2019.
Trentbarton is rolling out the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme, which includes learning about the everyday things bus drivers can do to help people with dementia.
Lauren Curry from Alzheimer’s Society says: “It is an absolute pleasure to be united against dementia with trentbarton for the next two years. Dementia is set to be the 21st century’s biggest killer, with someone developing the condition every three minutes.
“Transport companies, such as trentbarton, provide much needed accessibility for people living with dementia and carers supporting those with the condition. We are very much looking forward to what trentbarton has in store for Alzheimer's Society.”
Alzheimer’s Society says bus stations and stops are often busy and confusing places and people living with dementia often avoid travelling. Access to reliable, affordable and safe transport is important for older people to maintain contact and avoid loneliness and isolation.
Money raised by trentbarton’s depots and teams over the two years will help the charity’s work which includes providing information and support, improving care, funding research and create lasting change for people affected by dementia. In the East Midlands the charity provides support including Dementia Cafés, Singing for the Brain sessions, Dementia Support Workers and Side by Side volunteers.
