Six Scania-based models due as dealership says PSVAR demand ‘is outstripping supply’
Weavaway Travel is to further expand its PSVAR-compliant coach fleet by investing more than £1.4m in six MOBIpeople Explorers built on Scania K 320 chassis.
Three of the coaches will be 71-seaters in a 3+2 layout. The remainder will carry 59 passengers in a 2+2 configuration. They will all be delivered to the Thatcham operator in the spring, says Nick Dodgson, General Manager of supplier BASE Coach Sales.
Mr Dodgson adds: “We are delighted that Weavaway has decided to invest in our MOBIpeople Explorer product. It represents our largest order for the body on Scania chassis since expanding our range offering.”
BASE adds that demand for PSVAR compliant Explorers is currently “outstripping supply.” Mr Dodgson says the dealership is “working hard to offer solutions that are robust and financially prudent.”
Additionally, BASE is currently in the process of finishing its first conversion of an existing non-accessible Explorer to PSVAR compliant layout [routeone/News/4 December].
Earlier, MOBIpeople carried out a pilot conversion of an MAN TGL-based Midi Explorer at its factory in Portugal. BASE is now undertaking work on a dealer stock full-sized coach. It can achieve retrofit PSVAR certification on all non-accessible Explorers and Midi Explorers and Mr Dodgson says that it is already seeing strong demand.
“We are proceeding well with the first Explorer PSVAR conversion. All the required framework is now in place. Additionally, we have enquiries from at least 15 customers who are interested in having their own non-accessible Explorer and Midi Explorer coaches converted to PSVAR,” he adds
