A new bus service was introduced in Sunderland on Monday (16 September) by the Connect 700 Partnership. Route 702 serves the city’s National Glass Centre and is operated by Go North East.
The Sunderland Connect service is overseen through Sunderland City Council (SCC), Nexus and the University of Sunderland. It is operated by GNE with three Optare Solos delivered this year.
The new route followed lobbying by the community. It wanted better bus links to the Chillingham House sheltered accommodation complex near to the Sunderland Glass Centre. Changes to the road network have allowed buses to run via a previously unserved road.
Says SCC Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport Cllr Amy Wilson: “The joint backing of the 700 and 702 with our partners at Nexus and the University of Sunderland is another demonstration of the city’s commitment to working together to reduce congestion.”
