Burnley MP Antony Higginbotham (pictured) is one of two politicians that have commended Transdev Blazefield’s decision to press ahead with replacing its fleet of buses used on the Witchway service.

In late 2020 Transdev introduced 14 new Alexander Dennis Enviro400s to the route. They represent an investment of £3.8m in Witchway, which runs between Burnley and Manchester.

Mr Higginbotham says the new buses purchased by Transdev for Witchway will play a key role in connecting East Lancashire with jobs in Manchester when current restrictions are relaxed and assist in the rebuilding of the economy of East Lancashire at the same time.

“This investment means travel on a bus fit for the 21st century, providing not only a much higher level of comfort but also the connectivity needed to allow people to work while travelling – which is now more important than ever,” he adds.

The ‘Sky Class’ Enviro400s are to a high specification, including wi-fi, phone charging and USB points. Transdev adds that they have “the most sophisticated selection of high-end luxury features ever seen on local buses in Britain.” Ray Stenning’s Best Impressions agency created a new orange and black identity for the service. It continues inside the vehicles.

Mr Higginbotham has been joined by Leader of Rossendale Council Alyson Barnes in acknowledging the new Witchway buses’ impact. Transdev Blazefield CEO Alex Hornby says that the vehicles are part of the group’s work to build buses back better post-pandemic.

TV actress Jennie McAlpine was enlisted to provide announcements aboard the new Witchway fleet. She is best known for her role as Fiz Brown in Coronation Street.
