Being of a certain age, my road has certain statutory benefits and obstacles; one is an annual Class 6 medical.
In 2006, to improve my eyesight and save thousands of pounds on spectacles, I had plastic inserts replace my natural lenses. Appropriately, my doctor insists that I supply to DVLA an opticians report that has, on three separate renewals, detailed that my eyesight has effectively been corrected to 20/20 vision. Despite this, the DVLA has delayed each renewal, the most recent by eight months.
I complained to DVLA and received a written apology, a rarity in itself, but the delay causes all sorts of frustrations; alas nothing new to my situation. What I find abhorrent is that my next examination will be, by law, 20 months since the last. Done in the name of ‘safety’, says DVLA. Would this be acceptable in respect of a vehicle PMI?
I have complained to the Secretary of State, and also to Richard Turfitt and Simon Evans, but as Hugo Miller rightly points out [routeone/Letters/10 January], it’s one rule…nay…lots of contradictory decisions against us by those who stalk the corridors of power.
