To honour his career, Steve Whiteway – who retired as Managing Director of Epsom Coaches in June after over 37 years in the industry – won the Outstanding Contribution to Business Award at the Epsom & Ewell Business Awards last month.
The awards celebrated business excellence in the local community and were presented by Secretary of State for Transport and MP for Epsom & Ewell, Chris Grayling.
“Special congratulations to Steve Whiteway, it was fabulous to honour the career of such a respected business leader,” says Chris Grayling.
“I know he intends to continue to play an active role in the business community, his expertise will no doubt be highly sort after.”
Operating across south London Epsom Coaches ran 70% of the borough’s bus network and introduced the concept of the ‘hopper’ bus in the UK. A concept that is standard today, but started in Epsom.
In June 2015 Epsom Coaches celebrated its 95th Anniversary, 4,200 people celebrated, it was a memorable day, for an iconic firm which was so much more than just a business thanks to Steve Whiteway.
