Becky Miller has been appointed Director for England by Bus Users UK. She will take up the position on 10 November and bring what the organisation says is a powerful blend of international experience, community engagement and a deep commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
Ms Miller succeeds Lydia Horbury, who was recently promoted to Chief Executive of Bus Users UK after the retirement of Claire Walters. She has a background in education, advocacy and stakeholder collaboration and a master’s degree in international relations.
Ms Miller has supported people from a range of diverse background to access life-changing opportunities through study and has held senior roles in the UK and the United States. Her work thus far has focused on inclusion and safeguarding and advocating for people who are often underrepresented in policy and decision making.
Arrival of Ms Miller comes as Bus Users UK celebrates its 50th anniversary as the leading voice for bus passengers and a champion of accessible transport. The organisation adds that she “will focus on breaking down barriers to travel, amplifying the voice of passengers, and improving transport for everyone.”
Speaking about her appointment, Ms Miller says: “I am excited to be joining Bus Users UK during its 50th year as the organisation continues to promote passenger voices by removing barriers and improving transport accessibility.
“As an American who has called the UK home for the past 14 years, I have developed a deep appreciation for the power and potential of public transport to shape lives and connect communities, particularly for people who do not always have a strong voice in policy decisions.”
Ms Horbury has lauded the appointment of Ms Miller, noting: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Becky Miller as our new Director for England at such a landmark moment for Bus Users UK.
“Becky’s career has been dedicated to empowering individuals and communities, which aligns perfectly with our mission to make sustainable transport accessible to everyone. Her international experience, fresh perspective and passion for inclusion will be a tremendous asset as we continue to amplify the voice of bus passengers.”
