Public transport performance optimisation specialist CitySwift co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer Alan Farrelly has been elected by public transport association UITP as a National Ambassador for Ireland until June 2027.
In that role Mr Farrelly will represent Irish public transport interests within the UITP international network. He will foster collaboration and knowledge exchange that benefits operators across Ireland and beyond.
With UITP, Mr Farrelly succeeds Jim Meade, the previous Chief Executive of Iarnród Éireann, the operator of rail services in Ireland and Rosslare Europort.
Speaking about the appointment, Mr Farrelly says: “Being elected as UITP National Ambassador for Ireland is a real honour. UITP has been a cornerstone of public transport advocacy and knowledge sharing for over 140 years, and to represent Ireland within that community is something I am genuinely excited about.
“Global public transport is at an important moment – we have the data, the technology, and the ambition to deliver services that are more reliable, more efficient, and more passenger-focused than ever before.
“I look forward to bringing Ireland’s voice to the global stage, and bringing the best of global thinking back home.”
Since 2016, Mr Farrelly has led the growth of CitySwift by helping public transport authorities and bus operators around the world to harness data and AI to improve performance and the passenger experience. Clients include Transport for London, National Express, Metroline, Go-Ahead, Bus Éireann, and Dublin Bus.
His career began with family coach business Farrelly’s Coaches of Longford. CitySwift optimises over 3.3 billion passenger trips annually and delivers what the supplier says is a removal of obstacles to accessing transportation data by empowering teams with rapid and reliable performance insights.
