The Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) has appointed Andy Shaw (pictured) as its new Coaching Manager. He will join the trade body in the new year, taking over from Phil Smith.

Andy is tasked with championing the interests of coach operators at a national level, while providing members with updates on issues that range from airport access and operational policy to developments in zero-emission coach technology.

He joins CPT from the Go-Ahead Group, bringing a background that spans coach and bus operations. His coach career has included positions with Lochs and Glens and Edinburgh Coach Lines, where he had hands-on operational experience with touring, private hire and scheduled services.

CPT notes that over 54,000 people are currently directly employed by the coach sector, many of whom are within over 2,000 small and family-run businesses. According to KPMG research for the organisation, coach contributes £6.4 billion to the economy through employment each year, while coach passengers spend £8.3 billion in local economies.

Comments Keith McNally, Operations Director at CPT: “I am delighted that Andy will be joining us soon.  He brings with him a wealth of industry knowledge and has extensive experience working with stakeholders in a range of environments.

“Crucially, he knows what it’s like to manage coach operations across tour, private hire and scheduled operations and is really enthusiastic about supporting CPT members with the challenges they face.”
