David Boot has been named UK Director of Public Affairs and Policy by RHA. He will take up that post on 29 September and join from train operating company LNER, where he headed the Stakeholder Team and oversaw public affairs and community engagement across a network that extends from London to Inverness.
Mr Boot will strengthen RHA’s engagement efforts with government, policymakers and key stakeholders at all levels. He will be central to delivering RHA’s mission to champion and support the commercial vehicle and road transport sector, including coach, HGV and van operators.
He has almost 20 years’ experience in the public affairs, policy and stakeholder engagement field in transport, science and education sectors. Other previous employers include Gatwick Airport, National Highways, the National Association of Head Teachers, and the National Oceanography Centre.
His career began at DeHavilland, and his consultancy work gives what RHA says is “a deep understanding of the wider UK political landscape.”
Speaking about the appointment of Mr Boot, RHA Managing Director Richard Smith says: “We are delighted to welcome David to RHA. His experience across major transport infrastructure organisations, combined with a strong record of political engagement and policy influence, will be a huge asset to our members and our organisation.
“David’s appointment strengthens our voice in Westminster, the devolved nations and across the regions, ensuring that the needs of our sector are clearly heard and strongly represented.”
Adds Mr Boot: “I am delighted to be joining RHA at such a pivotal time for the road transport sector. With so much change across decarbonisation and infrastructure, and workforce challenges, it is more important than ever that our key sector’s voice is at the table.
“I look forward to working with members, colleagues, trusted partners and policymakers throughout the UK to help shape a positive future for the industry.”
