Graham Hamlyn to lead Wrightbus technical customer support

Move follows work on establishing NewPower business and a long automotive career beforehand

Longstanding automotive leader Graham Hamlyn has been named Director of Global Technical Customer Support by Wrightbus.

He moves to the position having spent 18 months with the Ballymena manufacturer. During that time, he was instrumental in establishing its NewPower battery-electric repower arm.

Now Mr Hamlyn leads a team of seven people delivering technical support globally to the manufacturer’s battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell-electric models.

With over 25 years in the automotive sector, Mr Hamlyn combines what Wrightbus says is technical expertise with a sharp understanding of customer needs across international markets.

Earlier in his career he spent 12 years at Honda, where he contributed to global vehicle development programmes in the Powertrain division and developed an appreciation for detailed customer requirements.

In 1999, Mr Hamlyn established a European customer technical support team at the Honda EU head office in Frankfurt for UK-manufactured vehicles, laying the groundwork for enhanced technical support across Europe.

Later, he spent nine years with Aston Martin, a spell that culminated in the role of Senior Programme Manager for the 2018 Vantage car and its derivatives – a position in which he led development of one of the brand’s most iconic performance vehicles.

Speaking about the appointment, Wrightbus CEO Jean-Marc Gales says: “We pride ourselves on the quality of our vehicles. As we continue to expand, we want to ensure that our customers are getting that same high-quality experience once the buses have left the factory.

“With a fleet of more than 2,000 zero-emission buses, and more being added every week, the creation of this role will ensure that our many customers have a dedicated technical support team to understand, analyse and drive resolution of technical issues alongside AllServiceOne.

“Graham brings a vast amount of technical and customer care experience with him.”

Adds Mr Hamlyn: “We know how important it is for our customers to keep their buses on the road for as much time as possible – and this new team is here to ensure that happens.

“By working closely with our team of engineering experts, we are responsible for implementing robust technical solutions to make sure our products are the best they can be.”
