Coup for business as former Transport for London bus supremo is appointed to help push rollout of i2e
Former Director of Buses at Transport for London (TfL) Mike Weston has joined Irizar UK as Strategic Bus Advisor, where he will assist the company as it pushes forward with plans to roll out the i2e electric bus.
Mr Weston ended a 30-year career at TfL and its predecessors in late 2016 to pursue consultancy work and his experience in steering London’s environmental bus strategy for 10 years will prove invaluable, says Irizar UK.
“It’s a great pleasure to be working with Irizar, which is a great organisation and, I believe, has an excellent future in the electric bus market,” says Mr Weston.
“Electric buses are not a new concept, but they are a realistic option for urban networks.
“As Irizar steps up production at its new electric bus factory in Spain, I am sure that there will be opportunities for the i2e and its other electric models.”
“We are very pleased to have secured some of Mike’s time, and to be able to take advantage of his huge experience in the area of low-emission city buses,” adds Irizar UK Director Steve O’Neill. “His strategic advice will help us to present operators and planners with a relevant and cost-effective option.”
Two Irizar i2es are already at work with Go-Ahead London.
